Truman doctrine:Truman stated the Doctrine would be "the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures

containment policy:was a plan set up to stop the spread of communism.other things that are under this is Truman doctrine NATO and Marshall plan.

bay of pigs invasion:The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an unsuccessful action by a CIA-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba, with support and encouragement from the US government, in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government

us foreign policy regarding Korea and Vietnam:both use force in an attempted to stop the spread of communism this is and example of containment policy

intervention:Interference by a country in another's affairs. we used this in Korea and vietnam.

cold war development:cold was basicaly a compition and state of hostility between the U.S and soviet union.over time its development increased for the race of nuclar wepons, the space race,cuban missle crises etc.

war powers act: is a federal law intended to check the power of the President in committing the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of Congress.

ww2 foreign policy vs post ww2 foreign policy:ww2 do what ever you can to win the war at all cost which means total war.post ww2 was to stop the spread of communism without disturbing the public or the soviet union on a grand scale which means limited war.

limited war:A limited war is a conflict in which the belligerents participating in the war do not expend all of each of the participants available resources at their disposal, whether human, industrial, agricultural, military, natural, technological, or otherwise in a specific conflict.

examples of containment in europe:marshall plan,truman docterin NATO

main points in the division of germany:it was divided up into 4 differint zones french zone US zone english zone and soviet zone.also divide up into to differint countries west germany and east germany.the capital of germant berlin was also divied up this way

mac arthurs dismissel:the head general of the korean conflict douglas mac arthur was dissmissed by harry s. truman for disobaying direct orders to pull back from chinese boarders.

korean war similarites to the persian golf war:both were caused by one countries invasion of the other US got rid of the invaders in both.both reestablished the origanal boarders.

Nuclear test ban:bans all nuclear explosions in all environments, for military or civilian purposes.

some long term effects of vietnam:cost many us lives.cost many us dolars.put a strong negitive effect on the intervention of other countrys affairs.

peace corps:The Peace Corps is an American volunteer program run by the United States Government, as well as a government agency of the same name. The mission of the Peace Corps includes three goals: providing technical assistance, helping people outside the United States to understand US culture, and helping Americans to understand the cultures of other countries

end of cold war:the end of the cold war happend with the collapse of the soviet union the event that marked it was the fall of the berlin wall in 1989.

domino theroy:The domino theory was a theory during the 1950s to 1980s, promoted at times by the government of the United States, that speculated that if one state in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.

nixons detente:is the easing of strained relations, especially in a political situation. The term is often used in reference to the general easing of relations between the Soviet Union and the United States in the 1970s.
